The £500m social care workforce fund has been approved but what does this mean for the industry?

The government has recently announced that the £500m Workforce Development Fund has been approved for an additional year to help tackle the social care staffing crisis as it continues to become a growing concern. This will be the governments’ next step to recover the workforce after the pandemic and get it back on track with the aim of boosting workforce recruitment, improving staff retention and ensuring that the wellbeing of all staff is better supported.

The money will fund training opportunities for health and social care staff to develop their skills and be able to provide the highest quality of care. These opportunities include:

  • A clear knowledge and skills framework, career pathways and linked investment that will be utilised to support the career progression of social workers

  • Investment in social work training

  • Helping employers with the costs of continued professional development (CPD)

  • A new digital hub for the workforce to access support, information, and advice

  • Skills passports which will act as a portable record of learning and development

  • 100,000 available training places for new care workers to complete the Care Certificate qualification.

The fund will also go towards providing mental health and wellbeing support as well as to improve access to occupational health. As for recruitment, there will be new policies created to identify and support the best recruitment practices.

Here at Imperium Solutions, we welcome the steps in place to tackle the social care staffing crisis, and believe it will be a real benefit to the industry to get it back up on its feet, click here to view the full press release about the adult social care workforce fund.
