Strengthening your social care team

In this blog, we explore the best ways to enhance your social care team to ensure that your workplace is positive and productive!

What you can do to help strengthen your social care team…

  • Give a helping hand where you can: Social work is busy, we know. But if you notice your colleague struggling, make an effort to provide a helping hand - whether that’s sitting in on a difficult conversation with a client or grabbing them some lunch when they have a chaotic schedule.

  • Communicate: Encourage your team to voice their concerns by holding regular meetings, one-to-ones and feedback sessions. Build an environment where people feel able to share when they are struggling or need some extra support.

  • Help boost morale: Even if you’ve had a tough few days at work, remember that positive energy is infectious and if you keep smiling then it will boost morale within the team and keep everyone going. Besides, no one wants to work alongside a moody colleague!

What can we do as a team?

  • Team-building Activities: Organise team-building activities to strengthen interpersonal relationships and foster a positive team culture. This could be a team day away or a games night. Regardless of the activity you choose, it doesn’t have to be expensive if you think outside the box!

  • Look after one another: If you notice your new colleague working through lunch, make sure to go over and encourage them to take a break - even if it’s only 15 minutes. As a social worker, you’re always going to have tasks to tick off the to-do list so make sure you take some time to refresh.

  • Plan socials: Build rapport with your team by spending a little time together outside of work hours. You could go for a group dinner, find a karaoke bar or do something more low maintenance like hosting a movie night.
